Stone Wine Romeiko (solera)

Stone Wine is a collector's edition of our winery, produced in just 300 numbered bottles annually, marking the rebirth of the indigenous Cretan variety Romeiko. Romeiko (100% varietal composition) is a wine that carries the history and character of Crete, combining the resilience and richness of the land with a distinct aromatic complexity. This dry wine is proof of the variety's ability to offer unique, long-aging results, making it a true gem for wine lovers.

Origin

The grapes come from proprietary vineyards with a low yield per acre (>1200 kgr/στρέμμα), located in the wider area of Anoskeli, at 300 meters above sea level. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, at the ideal stage of ripeness, ensuring the best possible raw material for the creation of this special wine, which highlights the distinct character of the Cretan vineyard.

Vinification

The vinification process takes place at low controlled temperatures, using exclusively indigenous yeasts, thus honoring the local tradition. The secret to Stone Wine's complexity lies in its aging: the wine matures in old French oak barrels using the rare Solera method. With this technique, different vintages are harmoniously blended, with the first Solera vintage being 2013, in order to highlight both the freshness and the maturity of the variety's aromas.

Tasting Notes

The wine has an impressive amber color with red reflections and leaves rich tears in the glass. It features medium acidity and ripe, rounded tannins that provide structure and volume. The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe fruits like plums and quince, notes of caramel, and dried nuts. On the palate, the aromas evolve, while the finish is long, smoky, and spicy. Due to its richness, it pairs perfectly with traditional pilaf, fatty cheeses, dishes with sweet and sour sauces, vegetable stews (Ladera), and meats.
